Make A Difference - Things You Can Do to "Take Back Some Quiet"
If enough people become involved then things can change.  We CAN take back some quiet and return to a more tranquil O'ahu.  If you are comfortable with becoming involved, here are several things you can do to make a difference.

It's important to emphasize that YOU SHOULD NEVER CONFRONT A SUSPECTED VIOLATOR PERSONALLY OR TAKE ANY ACTION THAT WOULD CREATE PERSONAL RISK.  Report suspected violations to the proper authority!

    --Report Suspected Violations.
If you observe what you believe to be a violation of one of the Hawai'i ordinances, statutes, or administrative rules (See page "What Statutes And Ordinances Protect Me From Noise), report that suspected violation to the proper authority (For contact information go to page link "Who Do I Call To Report Noise Pollution")

    --Follow This Website!
At the bottom of the "Home" page we'll indicate the last time the static pages of this website were upated.  Check for those updates!  Also, review the "Blog" page often.  Items of current interest will be posted, especially dates, times, and locations of public hearings on noise-related legislation.  It's VERY important that people show up for these hearings and speak out.  We will also post links to allow you to submit email testimony to make your opinion part of the public record.  You can also check us out and follow us on Facebook.  Just click the Facebook icon on our home page, top center below the menu bar.

--Become Involved With Your Neighborhood Board.  The Neighborhood Board organizations across the City and County of Honolulu (other islands have their own board structures as well) is the lowest level of participatory governance.  You as a Honolulu resident have the right to address the board, or to communicate with your board members on issues of interest to your specific community.   The City and County of Honolulu web site with each Neighborhood Board, their meeting times and location, and representatives and their contact information, can be found at the following link: http://www.honolulu.gov/nco/boards.html
(Click link to open separate page to this web site)

     --Email Your Neighborhood Board Members.
Express your concern about noise.  Speak up during the "Public Issues" time at each meeting. The link above for the neighborhood boards have links to generate emails to board members. You can find your specific Neighborhood Board members and their contact information at the following link:

--Contact Your Elected City Council Representative.  The Web Site with each member of council, meeting schedules, and contact information for each of the 9 council members can be found at: http://www.honolulu.gov/council (Click link to open separate page to this web site).  Beside each council member's name is a link to send that council member an email.

--It is the responsibility of each member of council to represent the people of their district.  Let them know again and again, over and over, that noise is important to you.  If your elected councilmember does not take action - express your dissatisfaction when casting your vote at election time.

--Contact Your Elected Legislators At The State Capitol.
The Web Site with each of our State Legislators can be found at:

--Contact The O'ahu Media - Newspapers and TV.
Most news reporters will take take the time to talk to you about your concerns over noise.  Or, if you are not comfortable speaking with a reporter, most media provide an email address to contact them.  If ENOUGH voices are heard, the story will be repeated and this may motivate others to become involved.
