I beg to disagree about the “worst noise” you have listed as car sounds. Even though there is now a car noise MEANT to sound like a backfiring car, installed on the car, a close second to the worst noise is having a Chinook, or string of military helicopters fly OVER our houses, the WORST noise here in my neighborhood, and BTW, now in other parts of the country, are bombs, pretending to be fireworks.
We all know what hell our New Year’s Eves have become. And those psychopaths, and others, with total disregard for everyone else’s right to a peaceful and safe existence, are running the show, endangering us all, polluting the land, and no doubt the ocean, and causing PTSD in our animals and ourselves. AND, we know that to obtain these atrocities, there is something BIGGER than those small brained humans, supplying these bombs.
I hope your group is one who realizes this is domestic terrorism and doesn’t turn a blind eye to it as so many are doing regarding the cure for domestic terrorism in our neighborhoods. This is a federal issue and needs to be addressed by government.
Please let me know when you decide to look at those issues and I will support you 100%. Thanks for reading.
Quieter O'ahu Response:
Aloha,
Mahalo for your note. We don't disagree that Fireworks are a major problem on O'ahu and in Hawai'i, and our "Worst Noise" comment merely reflects the preponderance of comments that we receive from website visitors. It certainly isn't intended to diminish the pain felt by O'ahu and Hawai'i Residents from the myriad other sources of noise that we encounter day-to-day, including Fireworks.
And, like many of the other sources of noise, we know that Fireworks of the type you mention are illegal and that HPD must do better at policing this problem. Participation in your Neighborhood Board will provide you an opportunity to question your HPD District Representatives directly on topics like: how many fireworks citations they have issued, and what their strategy is for combating this problem? It won't solve the problem, but it will let HPD and your neighbors know this is a problem in your community that must be addressed as a community and by the community supported by aggressive HPD enforcement.
We have added you to our distribution as requested.
Mahalo,
Quieter O'ahu
