We previously reported on a study proposed in the 29th Legislative Session (2018) by Reps Saiki, Belatti, and Browder.  The study passed reading and was referred successively to committees on Health and Human Services (HHS) and Finance (FIN).  We have learned that the proposal was passed by HHS, but was not brought up by the FIN committee and, therefore, died.  Below is the gist of the proposal for the noise study.  It obviously would have been worthwhile, but certain legislators did not believe it was worth their time.  The currently listed Chair, Vice Chair, and members of the FIN Committee who killed this proposal are shown here.  Perhaps you'll remember them come election time.

29th Legislative Session, 2018, House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 72
REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO CONDUCT A STUDY ON THE CUMULATIVE HEALTH EFFECTS OF PERSISTENT URBAN NOISE IN HONOLULU.

This resolution has requested what is perhaps one of the most broad-reaching studies on urban noise pollution ever undertaken by the city, and it bears watching by everyone concerned with the increasing noise on our island and across the State.  This initiative is supported by Representatives Saiki, Belatti, and Brower.

Also, use the "Contact A Quieter O'ahu" form (under "About Us" on the menu bar) to let us hear from you.  We continue to compile email addresses of those interested in reclaiming quiet for our island to inform of noise and related issues of interest.  From time to time Quieter O'ahu may recommend contacting City Council or the Legislator to make your feelings known on a particular noise or related Bill.
